It's A Puppy's Life

The First Day- April 13th

Caramel had a very exciting day today. First she had a bath, then she flew to Ontario on Linda and Edward's laps in a carry-on dog-carrier, then... *dum dum dum* ...She met her family! At first she was terrified of Taffy (a.k.a. "Dogzilla" to "Miss Plush Toy"), and Taffy completely ignored "The Thing That The Visitors Dragged In". Caramel's so soft and cuddly and tiny! Thankfully Taffy hasn't squished her yet.

After awhile, Taffy got quite curious (and somewhat wild- a leash was definitely a necessity) of Caramel and the two of them played with each

The Second Day- April 14th

Eeek. At 4:30 AM in the morning, Caramel decided that it was time to wake up the whole household. Unfortunately, it took her at least 15 minutes until she stopped howling and sounding like a puppy/squeaky toy/opera singer. I think that for the next while, we're going to have our own personal alarm clock!

Also today, Caramel went down her first set of stairs (or at least half of a set), as well as her first walk! =) For the first half she rode in Mom's arms, but then she and Taffy played in the field and she walked home.

Something I've noticed about Caramel is that she enjoys chasing things. She was stalking and pouncing on my rain boots when I took her outside (as well as chewing on her leash, grazing grass, lying down on the ground and refusing to budge, and many other cute yet puppy-like behaviour patterns), she's very interested in nipping the loops on the bottom of my pants, and she enjoys pretty much chasing people's feet. (Or maybe just their shoes/pants or she was hyper.... Hmmm...) Another very cute (and dominant) chasing-related habit of Caramel's is chasing, grabbing, and pulling Taffy leash. It was hilarious to watch her finally get a decent grip on it and pull it with all her might while Taffy didn't even seem to notice it. Silly puppy... After she grows a bit, I think we know who's going to be Top Dog.

On another note, Caramel absolutely loves chewing sticks, and I really hope she gets house-broken soon.

The Third Day- April 15th

By now, Caramel is Taffy's shadow; it's like Superdog and her sidekick the Plush Toy- best friends forever! Oh so cute.

This morning I went swimming as Caramel relaxed with her "puppy relaxation music", and this afternoon as Mom, Linda and I went on a 5 and a half hour shopping trip, Dad let the two dogs into the backyard to play for the afternoon, and he checked on them every once in a while. Sounds like Puppy Paradise to me!

The Fourth Day- April 16th- Easter!

Today Caramel has discovered the joys of digging.  Uh oh! We'd better not let that get too far.

Anyway, today Taffy and Caramel did quite a bit of play-fighting, acting just like siblings. Guess who had the size disadvantage? Unfortunately Taffy started to get a bit rough and we had to banish her inside for the rest of Caramel's outdoor session.

Also today, Caramel had a little photo session with some stuffed animals, as well as some with the rest of the family and the big (but oh-so-huggable) sister Taffy. Taffy is a little protective of her toys, but Caramel still follows her around and Taffy is still nice to her most of the time.

Here's another thing to be happy about- today, Caramel hasn't had any little "accidents"! Thank goodness for that.

EDIT: Never mind...

Lucky Caramel was on people's laps alot today because we had company. =) Of course, after a while she started getting impatient.

Caramel absolutely loves her favourite hiding place- under the stairs! She can just duck right under them like she's doing the limbo. A place to dig, get dirty, and not be able to be picked up by my human! How perfect! (For her, that is. It's still quite cute though, I must admit.)

She also had her first car ride (with me, at least, I think that it was actually her third). She was in my lap and tried to look out the window. :)

Taffy's currently "showing Caramel the ropes".  Caramel's learning a lot from her, some of which we wish she didn't know. For instance, Caramel's shown Taffy how to get under the highest part of the stairs (so now they can just play, dig and generally get dirty where I can't reach them!), and Taffy's shown Caramel the joys of digging.

The Fifth Day- April 17th

Today Caramel was cute. She's still not house-broken though...

I wonder when she's going to learn that she's not supposed to have her naps in my parent's room? It doesn't help that that's the room with the door...

When I woke up in the morning, I went to pet Taffy, who was sun-napping in my parent's room and apparently lacking her little sidekick. I then turned around and Caramel darted out from under the bed! I'm telling you, she's quite a cute little thing.

She still loves following Taffy everywhere. Caramel currently loves to stick to Taffy (who is starting to get quite annoyed with this little fluffy thing that Linda and Ed forgot to take home, or at least sometimes) like Velcro! They currently do everything together. In fact, at one point as Caramel attempted to follow Taffy to the door to come in, she tripped over a hole (before getting back up again and pursuing Taffy up the stairs, of course!). On the subject of holes, later in the day I tripped over that same hole too. Oops!

Caramel had her first walk today! She didn't quite walk the whole way, but she's catching on very quickly. She just kept trying to catch up to her big sister!

Taffy and Caramel played tug-of-war with a stick yesterday. They kept taking it back from the other, but I forget who won in the end... Caramel maybe?

Caramel also got her first taste (not literally) of the blender today. As Taffy aborted the room immediately, Caramel stuck around for a minute or two with her ear twitching before following her sister. She's definitely showing a bolder side of herself compared to Taffy...

For the first time today, Caramel heard Taffy bark at something. She was terrified! Poor Caramel.

The Sixth Day-  April 18th

Today, for the first time, we heard Caramel bark (or rather, "ruff"), if you don't count her night-time howling! She was "ruff"ing at the doggy in the mirror.  Note: She takes interest in the puppy in the mirror alot even now! She loves mirrors, the spoiled little thing! ;) ~ April 29th

She's developed a crate-time routine. "First, I stick my paw out the door so Mom can't shut the door, then when it is closed, I howl with all my might until my family comes home/ lets me out!" Recently, she's even started sticking out her whole head instead of just her paw!

Caramel still sticks around with Taffy alot, but she's definitely becoming more independent.

We found her sleeping on top of/ by Dad's computer bag today. Not the best choice for a pillow, Caramel...

One of her cutest habits (or at least now, pretty soon she'll be too big to do so!) is walking underneath Taffy as if she doesn't exist! Taffy's so tall compared to Caramel she must seem like a bridge or something...

We have been discovering more and more that Caramel is a born ankle (and foot)-biter. She seems to love the taste/texture/colour/something like that of feet, shoes and slippers for some reason! Unfortunately, Taffy has even more of a problem. Caramel seems to enjoy chewing on her paw. Hmmm...

Day Seven- April 19th

Caramel has decided that Caramel's bones taste better than hers, especially considering that she can only play with her rope-ducky

To be continued... Last update April 29 (day 16)!
